troveshop | HTC Vive Preorders Officially Open [UPDATE]

[UPDATE] HTC’s Shen Ye says the HTC Vive moved around 15,000 units in its first 10 minutes on sale.

The original story is below.

HTC Vive, the virtual reality headset from HTC and Half-Life developer Valve, is now available for preorder. Orders for the $800 device opened today, February 29, at 7 AM PST / 10 AM EST.

You can place an order here at HTC’s store. The devices will start shipping in early April.

The Vive Consumer Edition comes with the headset, two wireless controllers, two “base stations,” a link box (to connect to your PC), and a pair of Vive earbuds. It also includes two games–Job Simulator and Fantastic Contraption–as well as Google’s Tilt Brush app.

You also need a capable gaming rig; something in the $1,000 range, according to GameSpot sister site CNET. Check out the GameSpot’s video above for a more detailed overview.

GameSpot tried HTC Vive and reported that the headset demonstrates the future of virtual reality better than any other device. Sony’s PlayStation 4 virtual reality device PlayStation VR also releases this year, but the company has yet to announce pricing or other specific launch details for it.

You can see HTC Vive’s pricing information for international markets here.
